Happy Friday VenCaf community! We hope your weekend plans are full of sunshine! In case you missed our Gathering yesterday, here are some highlights from Funding The Mission: Mistakes, Mobilization, & Military Tech!

We had the pleasure of hearing from various leaders in the community about how mistakes can materialize into success stories, how business ventures can achieve funding sources by leveraging technology developed by the Department of Defense, and how you can quickly mobilize to secure resources for your social venture.

To kick things off we heard from LaKecia Ligon, owner of LaKecia Veal Ligon Consulting. She led our newly piloted session Funding Faux Pas. This session was dedicated to learning how she – and others – turned a past failure into a lesson learned with rewarding benefits for their respective venture(s). She and others in our community came together to share these stories, and help one another grow from these experiences.

Next, we heard from David Scott of TechLink. His session was dedicated to sharing insight into how he’s leveraged over $1 Million Dollars in Government Funding! David specifically honed in on leveraging technology used by the Department of Defense, and how to access SBIR grant funding. He was a very engaging speaker! In fact, I might’ve dropped in for a second or two to hear how one could go about achieving these foundational resources!

Finally, we had heard from Benjamin Singer, LaShana Lewis, and Alderperson Christine Ingrassia. These three led our panel on Raising Money For Your Social Venture. They shared stories regarding how their collective efforts transformed the St. Louis civic landscape using untraditional, innovative fundraising techniques to raise more than $100,000 of seed funding in less than a month in support of resident-led initiative petitions.

As you’re aware, this month’s theme is centered around Funding The Mission, and we’ve been pleased to curate these sessions around the mission-driven work our community engages and supports. Stay tuned to our website and social platforms to find out how you can Fund YOUR Mission at the next Venture Café Thursday Gathering! Until next time VenCaf Community!
