It was a night filled with insight and interactive demonstrations as Community Activations was held at Venture Café once again. A Gathering consistently dedicated to showcasing different innovations happening in our community that you can get your hands on. So let’s get into what you might’ve missed last week.

Kicking things off in our Cafe Space, Alpha Omega Computing showcased how VR can transport you to a different country in the snap of a finger. They also demonstrated their IT services and own personal ID app titled “WeedID”. Ontop of Bob & Bud showcasing their amazing talents and innovations we had local beer and wine distributor Hop Shop that evening. Their very own owner, Justin Harris graced us by providing new summer selections of beer and wine that the community normally doesn’t get to enjoy.

Demonstrations weren’t the only thing enriching people’s lives though. Mindy Choo of Makan Consulting made her Office Hours debut as she enlightened community members about how to increase engagement and marketing through email as it relates to B2B.

Being an entrepreneur is tough, a truth we all know, and connecting in a community that can understand that struggle is just as important to your professional journey as anything else. That’s why Ronke Faleti of Korédé House hosted a presentation about finding those pockets of community and how to even create your own.

The social aspect is one key part of entrepreneurship but, another just as important metric for success is obtaining funds through services sold or investors interested in what you can offer. That’s why David Weaver took over the Havana Room to talk about the legality of raising capital and how you can jump through all the red tape that is involved with fundraising. Speaking of, investors, capital, and fundraising (oh my!), TechSTL’s very own Emily Hemingway moderated a star-studded panel featuring Vik Lakhwara, Alfred Jackson, and Frank Hopper. Each of these industry experts spoke to the challenges of finding funding and how you can appeal to investors and what investors are looking for.

So as you can see Community Activations did not only activate the space but as Venture Cafe is known to do, it activated your mind as well! Looking forward to this week, we are celebrating Juneteenth as a federal holiday with our Fade To Black: A Celebration of Black Culture & Fashion Event! This event is dedicated to black creatives in St. Louis who are looking to make their mark on the world. Come by to experience a taste of what St. Louis has to offer. We hope to see you there!
